Why the present moment is the best place to be
With the hustle and bustle of the modern day and age, it’s easy to think that happiness lies somewhere in the future. You’ll be happy when you get this promotion, marry this person, buy these clothes, or earn a certain amount.
Many people chase it but fail to sustain it for long. Soon enough, there’s the next thing to pursue, and once again, happiness feels out of reach.
It’s like we’re running around like a dog chasing its tail.
My whole life, I too was searching for happiness, believing it was somewhere out in the future. I thought it would come when I arrived at a specific place—when I grew my business to a certain level, had a certain number of clients, and achieved all the things I had envisioned.
The present moment never felt quite good enough because my mind was fixated on what I didn’t have yet. It was as if happiness was always tied to a future moment that never seemed to arrive in its fullness.
This is the state many women, especially those striving for achievements, live in. It’s a constant rush to get to the next thing, always hoping it will be better. It’s like living in a dream, panting and chasing endlessly.
And sadly, most people don’t wake up from that dream. They believe that if they chase hard enough, they’ll earn their happiness. But one way or another, we all discover it’s never the case.
The peak moment always feels just out of reach. Even when you think you’ve attained it, it somehow slips away like a mirage. This cycle repeats for as long as we allow it to, leaving us exhausted, unsatisfied, and empty from never fully arriving “there.”
Eventually, this leads us to pause, take a breath, and ask: What are we actually chasing? What is it that we’re actually lacking?
And when you stop to ask those questions, you may notice a faint glimmer of light shining on your awareness—a light you hadn’t seen before.
~
The first thing you’ll notice is a discomfort in the present moment. That’s the real reason you’ve been running to get somewhere else.
This discomfort often stems from the mind, which generates thoughts of “not enough.” These can be judgments about who you are:
Why do you look like this? What will people think of me?
Or judgments about your performance:
Why haven’t I got there yet? Why am I not there fast enough? etc.
These thoughts keep you in a state of frenzy, repeating patterns of striving, worrying, and trying to control the future.
Liberation begins the moment you realize that you are not your thoughts. You are not even the mind thinking those thoughts.
You can start by asking: Who is the one thinking these thoughts?
And you’ll find that the source of these thoughts aren’t really you. They were passed down from parents, friends, teachers—each carrying their own stories and fears. These thoughts are like viruses that didn’t originate from you.
Who you are is the awareness that is vast, expansive, and pristine—like the sky that holds any shape and color of clouds.
When you focus on that awareness, you’ll see that the thoughts playing on your mind are like a TV show you’ve been clinging to. And the truth is, you have a choice. You can choose the kind of thoughts you engage with—or choose not to engage with them at all.
Because who you are is not the thoughts. You are the space between them.
~
As you deepen this awareness, you’ll naturally connect with the sensations in your body. Your body is constantly communicating what it needs to feel fulfilled.
And here’s the key: You don’t have to wait to satisfy those needs.
Your desires can be fulfilled now. You can feel loved now. You can be at peace now.
When you run away from the present moment, you are actually running away from yourself—your body, your heart, and your soul. The mind tricks you into believing that something outside you is the answer, but it’s always been you.
It’s like a parent saying they’ll be there for you only when certain conditions are met: when the finances are fixed, or the grades are good, or the marriage is healed.
This pattern of running away from the present moment often mirrors the way our parents or caregivers relate to us. When our minds tell us that the present isn’t enough, it’s like a parent telling a child that she isn’t enough.
Fulfilling your needs comes down to going past the mind, so you can meet yourself, right here in this present moment. It’s an act of self-love, nurturing the parts of you—body, heart, and soul—that most need your attention.
~
And my love, with a fulfilled mind, body, and spirit, you’ll see that this present moment holds everything.
The thoughts of “not enough” are simply pointing to what needs attention here and Now. Your emotions and sensations are guiding you to the parts of yourself that need your presence– your love, your understanding, your warmth Now.
For example, if you feel anxious about not being liked, there’s likely a part of you that feels unloved and so needs your reassurance. Or if you’re stressed about outcomes, there’s likely a part of you that feels unsafe and wants your comfort.
Every emotion you feel is calling for you—specifically, the higher Self within you. That Source of infinite love, healing, and wisdom that is always there in you.
This is how you access your true power, dear one. This is how you connect to God/ Universe/ the Divine within.
And this is also how you come Home to yourself, where there is more than enough for everything you need.
~
And of course, just as with every miracle you will experience, you can’t just understand this conceptually. We have to actually be in the present moment in order to realize how everything we need is within you.
And you do that by feeling everything fully and allowing them all– even if the emotions are sad, heavy, or low. For it is only through digging down a deep dark well that the treasure is found.
Which is the reason why to me, whenever I feel a “low” emotion in the present moment, I personally find it exciting. Because through the “low” emotions, I can see more depth, power, and revelation that lies inside of me.
Which also allows me to bring this inner alchemy to bring lasting peace in the lives of my clients too, of course.
Then as you sit with these emotions, you will find a new relationship to the present moment where the moment provides for you in all.
Like in my own life, for example, whenever I want to write content on my blog, I simply ask what this moment wants me through write….
Or if a client of mine wants to know how to go about healing something, I simply ask what this present moment wants to speak through me…
I ask: How does the present moment want to live through me? Rather than what do I need to do, to get somewhere else…
And time and time again, I’ve been shown that if I just trust this moment, things just get done. Not in the way that my ego mind tries to make things work but better. Way better than anything else I would have done or imagined, had my mind been stressed out and worried, trying to control
It’s like when you trust this present moment, you are letting the Divine give you a helping hand.
And this is how my love you can relax in the ease and joy of this moment… Because now, you are filled up, satisfied, and nourished by this space of All that is… instead of you running away from it.
Since after all, the “future” is after all just a figment of our own imagination anyway.
All there is, is the eternal Now that’s beyond time and space. It is the only place where you are and where God is. And only through trusting this can we flow with all of life’s creations.
